Although it is a plant of long tradition, today the FBA3 hot-dip coating plant is one of the most modern plants within thyssenkrupp Steel Europe. The surface-coated sheet produced there is mainly used in the automotive industry which has very high quality standards.

The FBA 3, the figurehead of the site, is constantly being further developed technically. Thus, thyssen had no real choice, they had to decide on the modernization measure for an integrated solution from DUMA-BANDZINK in cooperation with EMG.

In order to enable the installation of the strip stabilization, corresponding extensions to the galvanizing machine were required. These are mainly limited to the air knife traverse and the edge masks.

By installing the integrated solution, the following goals could be realized:

• Reduce strip vibrations and minimize cross-bow effect (≥50%), resulting in an improved of surface quality
• Homogeneous surface layer
• Reduction of aluminum consumption
